Piia Rossi

The curtain, 2025
At Old Kuopio Museum

The curtain is a textile and sound installation that hangs in a doorway like a cozy interior curtain. The work examines the duality of seeing and being seen, as well as the layered nature of perception in everyday encounters. Its visual appearance combines translucency, playfulness and nostalgic coziness. The sound of the artwork invites the viewer to interact more deeply.

Piia Rossi's artistic work is characterized by the combination of traditional craft methods and contemporary art phenomena. She makes particular use of techniques associated with women's handicrafts, such as crocheting, bringing them into the discourse of contemporary art and problematizing their cultural meanings. Themes of belonging, longing, and loss often recur in her installations.

Piia Rossi is a visual artist based in Espoo, originally from Imatra, who works between Finland and Slovakia. She is trained as a jeweller and has also studied fine arts and education in Ireland. She has held solo exhibitions in Ireland, Finland, and Germany, and participated in numerous international group exhibitions. In 2026, Rossi will be featured at the Art Realm '26 Biennale in Tampere. In March of the same year, she will have a solo exhibition at Galleria Uusi Kipinä in Lahti.
